The ZDX name now belongs to Acura's first electric SUV, and the few original coupe-style ZDXs still around are a different job entirely. On the new car we brush out the flush handle pockets, clean the glass roof inside and out and keep water away from the charge port. On the original we polish the shallow rear glass and clean the hidden pillar handles. Both get a sealant so the winter film rinses off the wide, flat panels.

What we watch for on a ZDX

• Flush door handles on the electric ZDX leave pockets that fill with grit and ice; we clean the recesses with a soft brush
• The fixed panoramic glass roof is cleaned from inside with a glass-safe cleaner and outside with foam and a soft mitt
• Ultrasuede seats need a microfibre-specific cleaner, and the large touchscreen gets a lint-free towel and screen cleaner only
• The ZDX's charge door on the front fender collects salt spray and ice; we clean the flap and surround with a soft brush and a damp cloth and keep water pressure away from the connector
• Original 2010–2013 cars have a sloped rear window that spots badly and hidden rear door handles in the pillars that collect grime

Electric vehicles: quiet, glassy and light on the engine bay

EVs have big glass roofs, minimal controls on screens, vegan leather and no engine bay to degrease. The work is mostly about glass clarity, screen-safe cleaning, paint protection and careful wheel and charge-port care.
