Detailing your Jaguar XE

The XE was Jaguar's compact sedan for a short run, and the ones in the GTA are usually on their second owner with soft paint over an aluminum body that dents if you look at it wrong. We polish with light pressure, seal the paint and polish the pitted chrome. Inside, the Light Oyster leather gets foamed and brushed, the rising rotary shifter gets a soft cloth and the thin rear carpets get extracted for salt.

What we watch for on a XE

• The aluminum body does not rust, but it dents easily and the paint on it is soft; we use light pad pressure and a fine polish
• Light Oyster leather shows denim dye and dirt in the grain; a foaming cleaner and a soft brush restore it evenly
• The rotary gear selector and the piano-black console scratch from rings and keys; a plush microfibre and no abrasive cleaner keep them clear
• Rear footwells are tight and the carpet thin, so salt stains spread beyond the mats; an extraction removes them
• Chrome trim around the glass pits in salt; we polish it and apply a sealant

Luxury cars: soft paint, delicate trim

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
