Detailing your Mercedes-Benz GLB

The GLB is a boxy family box with a Mercedes badge, and it fills with the same cereal, juice and salt as any minivan. We fold the second row to reach the tiny third row, lift the child seats to clean the bench underneath and extract the carpets. The upright body washes easily but the flat roof holds sap and water spots, so we polish it and seal it along with the rest of the paint before winter.

What we watch for on a GLB

• The optional third row is strictly for kids and collects wrappers and crumbs; we fold the second row to reach it properly
• The upright glass and boxy shape are easy to wash, but the roof is flat and wide and holds standing water and tree sap in summer
• Beige Artico is common in the GLB and shows denim transfer and juice stains that come out with a foaming synthetic leather cleaner
• The turbine air vents have deep fins that trap dust; a soft brush and low suction clean them without bending the louvres
• Rear-seat child seats leave compressed imprints and crumbs under the base; we remove them where the owner allows and clean the bench underneath
