The EQS is a quiet, screen-filled flagship, and most of its surfaces are either glass or gloss black. We clean the full-width Hyperscreen and the black nose panel with no abrasion at all, pop the flush door handles to clean their pockets and keep water away from the charge port. The sedan's hatch means the cargo carpet sees winter slush, so we extract it rather than vacuum it, and the SUV's third row gets the same attention as the front.

What we watch for on a EQS

• The Hyperscreen is one glass panel across the whole dash and shows every fingerprint; we use a screen-safe cleaner and a lint-free microfibre with no pressure
• The gloss-black front panel where a grille would be scratches easily, so it is washed with foam and a soft mitt and never a brush
• The sedan hood is not meant to be opened by the owner, so there is no engine bay service; the time goes into the charge port door and the flush door handles
• Flush door handles pop out and the recesses collect grit and salt; we clean the pockets with a brush and a damp cloth
• The long hatchback glass on the sedan collects spots and the liftgate seal traps slush that drips into the cargo area
