The last Taurus is a big, heavy, comfortable car, and the ones we see in North York and Markham are usually driven by someone who has owned it since new or bought it from a fleet sale. Either way, the interior is spacious enough that a detail takes a bit longer than a normal sedan, and the deep trunk hides years of grit. We give the leather a proper clean and condition, extract the carpets, and bring the flat roof and hood back to a glossy finish.

What we watch for on a Taurus

• The trunk is enormous and deep, so grit works its way under the mat and into the spare-tire well — we vacuum the well and wipe the plastic trim around the latch
• Wide front console creates tight footwell gaps where fries and receipts disappear; a crevice tool and compressed air clear them out
• Ex-police and ex-fleet cars often have equipment holes in the dash and carpet wear under the driver's seat; we clean around them and note any damage rather than hiding it
• The long hood and roof are flat, so water spots from sprinklers and bird droppings etch into dark paint; a polish restores gloss and a sealant slows the next round
• Heavy curb weight means big brakes and heavy dust on the 18–20 inch wheels, especially on the SHO

Full-size cars: lots of surface, lots of seat

Full-size sedans have large rear benches and long panels, so the interior extraction and the exterior decontamination both take longer, and the rewards are bigger too.
