Light sewage or sludge contact on carpet and mats cleaned where we can; heavy contamination referred to a specialist.
A flooded basement or garage drain backup can leave dirty water on floor mats, carpet and door sills, especially when the car was parked low in a condo garage or on a driveway that pooled. This page is about being straight with you: we are a mobile detailing company, not a restoration or remediation firm.
We can help with light, surface-level contact, such as a splash on mats and carpet, a muddy waterline on a sill, or sludge tracked in on shoes. For anything heavier, the right move is a specialist first and a detailer afterward.
If the contamination is limited to mats, the top of the carpet and hard surfaces, we can work on it. We wear protective gloves and masks, remove the mats, and lift loose solids by hand into sealed bags before any liquid touches the carpet.
From there it is an enzyme cleaner, hot-water extraction and steam on the surfaces we can reach, followed by an odour treatment aimed at the source rather than a fragrance over the top. Contaminated cloths and disposable materials are bagged and thrown out, not reused on the next car.
If sewage water rose above the floor and soaked the seat cushions, the carpet pad or the underside of the console, we will tell you plainly that a detailer is the wrong first call. Water that has been inside a vehicle's floor for a day or more is also a different job from a quick splash.
We may decline heavy sewage jobs, and in those cases we will point you to a restoration or specialist cleaning company that handles contaminated water. Once they have removed the affected materials, we are happy to do the final interior detail.
Do not run the heater or fans with the windows shut, and do not start a car that has taken in water above the floor line, as electronics and wiring can be at risk. Take photos of the waterline for your records.
Mention the source when you text us: a basement backup, a storm drain overflow or a spill from a container all lead to different plans. If the car was flooded as part of a larger building event, check with your insurer about the vehicle before you spend anything.
Odour reduction is the realistic goal, and on light contact it is often very noticeable. If the smell lingers after the surface work, it usually means moisture sits in the padding, and we will explain the options: deeper extraction, partial removal by an upholsterer, or replacement of that section.
Most of our light-contact jobs in the GTA come from the same few situations: a spring thaw backup, a heavy summer storm that overwhelmed a street drain, or a garage floor drain that failed. In each case, speed helps. The sooner the mats come out and the carpet is extracted, the less the moisture and smell can spread.
Typical time: 1.5–3 hours for light surface contamination; we assess first and tell you if the job is beyond our scope.
